Directory Journal just turned THREE! And we want you to celebrate with us. In honor of our third anniversary as one of the Web’s leading directories, we’re giving you a chance to win some great prizes in our June Submission and Twitter “Follow and Retweet” contest. You can win an iPad, $200 cash, and more. Find out more below, and enter our contest today!
The Prizes
5 winners will be chosen for the prizes below:
- A brand new iPad (for one grand prize winner)*
- $200 cash deposited into your PayPal account (for one first prize winner)
- 3 permanent regular listings at DirJournal.com (1 free listing for each of 3 second prize winners)
* The cash value of a new iPad may be substituted for an actual iPad at the discretion of DirJournal.com staff, depending on things like the winner’s location. Cash value prizes require a Paypal account in order for the winners to claim their prize. If the grand prize winner doesn’t want the iPad for any reason, they can also request a cash value prize (but they must also have a Paypal account). The cash value for the iPad prize will be considered $729.
The Rules
There are two ways you enter this contest.
Enter by Making Directory Submissions
Every person who submits a link to DirJournal.com using coupon code DJCONTEST10 between now and June 14th will be eligible for the prize drawing. That coupon code will also save you 20% on your site submission, so submit your site today! Here’s how much you’ll pay (and save):
- $47.96 for a regular yearly listing (regularly $59.95)
- $79.96 for a yearly featured listing (regularly $99.95)
- $127.96 for a permanent regular listing (regularly $159.95)
- $199.96 for a permanent featured listing (regularly $249.95)
Enter on Twitter
If you aren’t ready to take advantage of our site submission discount yet, that’s okay. There’s no purchase necessary to take part in this contest. Here’s another option:
All you have to do to be eligible to win one of these fabulous prizes is to follow @DIRJournal on Twitter, retweet the following message and link to this post:
Win a free iPad, $200 cash or a free listing from @DIRJournal! http://bit.ly/9ZdhEi
Don’t forget that you need to do both of these things: follow @DIRJournal and retweet the above message and link no later than June 14th in order to be eligible for the prizes.
How We’ll Determine the Winner
On June 15th we’ll choose 5 winners at random from all qualifying submissions. To keep things fair, we’ll run all eligible entries through Random.org. To avoid any bias, no one will manually choose the winners. The first Twitter ID “drawn” will win the grand prize iPad, the second will win the $200 cash, and so on.
Note: If you follow and Retweet us but then unfollow us before June 15th you will not be eligible for any of the prizes. You must be in our follower list on the 15th when we identify all eligible entries.
Winners will be announced on June 16th on Twitter, and winners will be contacted via DM on Twitter for more information about collecting their prizes.

As promised, I thought I’d give my feedback.
First of all, I like the overall design. My biggest issue is the contrast of the links with their background. It does look nice, but for some users, it might be difficult to read. Especially for those who might be colorblind, or if you’re in an environment with high ambient light.
It might not hurt if the type were a tad bigger, since you’re using serif fonts for the body also.
As for the site itself, it seems ok, but I’m not sure what the site is “about”. Sure, it’s a handpicked directory, but to what purpose? What criteria are used for picking sites, other than that they’re willing to pay to be listed and meet the minimum requirements? If I’m a consumer, why would I want to use your site instead of doing a Google search, or looking at other directories like Yahoo? If I’m a potential lister, why would I want to pay you for a listing-what are the benefits of listing with you as opposed to other online directories? That information should be pretty obvious, or at least it should be obvious where to find it easily and quickly.
In short, I think it could use a bit of marketing polish and messaging. The site tells me “what”, but it doesn’t tell me “why”, and “why” is the most important question. As a long-time web designer and developer, I understand the “why”, but it would not be obvious to most of your customers, both users of the site and those wanting listings.
Matt — Much of that “benefits” information is already listed on the landing page here — http://www.dirjournal.com/submitsite.php
I notice that’s not what the submit site link on this particular blog points to though, so I’ll mention it to Hasan so those benefits are what people are directed to first.
Missed this one but i guess will actively participate in more such contest in the future.
