Most people are appalled at the thought of people charging $10 for a box of matches or $7 for a loaf of bread in the aftermath of an emergency like Hurricanes Sandy or Katrina, earthquakes or any other time people are desperate.
There are some who argue that by allowing prices to rise you can actually reduce shortages because people who want to avoid standing in lines to get less expensive resources would be able to spend whatever they could afford and reduce demand that could go to those who most needed it.
